Listen with care
Service begins with understanding. Take time to hear someone’s situation without making assumptions about their life. A respectful conversation can help clarify what support would be useful and how the church might respond.

Community Service is an invitation to put faith into practice by paying attention to the people around us. Following the example of Jesus, we seek to respond to hardship with compassion, respect, and a willingness to help. A person is more than the difficulty they are facing. Listening carefully, honoring their dignity, and offering practical encouragement are part of what it means to love our neighbors.
Adventist Community Services is the church’s wider ministry of community outreach. Its work includes support during disasters, tutoring and mentoring, care for older adults, and emotional and spiritual support. These ministries recognize that some needs arise suddenly while others require patient, ongoing attention. They provide a foundation for churches to understand their communities and consider how their people, resources, and partnerships can make a useful contribution.
Here in Allentown, you can begin by sharing a community need or asking the church about current opportunities to serve. Your time, practical abilities, and willingness to work alongside others can all be valuable. Contact the church before collecting items or bringing donations so that your contribution can be matched to an identified need.

There are many ways to contribute to the well-being of a community. Ask about current volunteer needs and share the skills you are willing to offer. Helping with organization, practical tasks, or a specific project can be a meaningful starting point.
Before donating food, clothing, or other supplies, ask what is needed and how items should be delivered. Coordinating first helps volunteers use contributions responsibly and makes it easier to direct support where it can help.
The church’s Special Needs Fund considers requests related to needs such as housing, utilities, food, and clothing. The application provides a way to explain your circumstances and the assistance you are seeking. Requests are reviewed according to the fund’s guidelines; completing an application does not guarantee assistance.
If you need help understanding the application or would like to ask about the process, contact the church office. You can also reach out to discuss a community concern and ask what support or next steps may be available.
